We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong HVAC and building systems design experience to join an established MEP engineering team. This position will support a range of commercial and institutional projects, with a strong focus on healthcare facilities, hospitals, laboratories, medical centers, and research environments.
Responsibilities
- Design HVAC and mechanical systems including heating, cooling, heat rejection, ventilation, air and water distribution, building automation, and controls.
- Perform load calculations, system design calculations, and energy modeling as required.
- Select and size mechanical equipment for building systems.
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other design documentation.
- Develop designs using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, and other disciplines.
- Identify and resolve MEP coordination issues throughout the design process.
- Attend project meetings and communicate directly with clients, architects, and other members of the project team.
- Support sustainable and energy-efficient building design.
- Manage smaller projects or defined portions of larger projects.
- Review work for quality, accuracy, and coordination.
- Assist with client communication and project delivery from design through construction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
- 3+ years of professional experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, or similar building projects.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Strong understanding of HVAC system design and equipment selection.
- Knowledge of applicable national and local building and mechanical codes.
- Understanding of coordination between mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, and fire alarm systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working directly with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT certification.
- Previous healthcare, laboratory, or research facility experience.
- Familiarity with FGI Guidelines and healthcare design requirements.
- Experience with New York City building systems and codes.
