We are looking for an experienced Safety Manager to oversee safety across commercial construction projects and company operations.
This person will work closely with field leadership, employees, project teams, customers, and company leadership to maintain a safe work environment and make sure safety policies are being followed. The role will include jobsite inspections, employee training, incident investigations, safety compliance, and developing programs to address high-risk work.
Responsibilities
Safety & Incident Management
- Lead accident and near-miss investigations and make sure required documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Complete incident investigation paperwork within 24 hours of notification.
- Lead investigations involving serious incidents and identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Track corrective actions through completion and follow up on overdue items.
- Review incidents and near misses to determine whether safety procedures, JHAs, MOPs, or training need to be updated.
- Present safety findings and trends to company leadership.
- Work with Human Resources on Workers' Compensation and light-duty processes.
Jobsite Safety & Compliance
- Conduct regular jobsite inspections and safety audits.
- Identify hazards and work with field leadership to correct issues.
- Make sure employees are following company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Establish and maintain a stop-work process for unsafe or high-risk work.
- Review safety practices involving energized electrical work, Lockout/Tagout, fall protection, confined spaces, mobile equipment, and other high-risk activities.
- Verify critical safety procedures are being followed in the field, not just documented.
- Make sure Service and Construction teams are completing required safety inspections and addressing findings.
- Maintain accurate safety records, training documentation, SDS information, and compliance records.
Training & Safety Programs
- Manage new-hire safety orientation and ongoing employee safety training.
- Develop and update safety policies, procedures, SOPs, JHAs, and MOPs.
- Keep safety programs current with changes to OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and other applicable requirements.
- Communicate policy and procedure changes to employees and make sure they are being followed in the field.
- Provide safety training and coaching to Foremen, Technicians, and other field employees.
- Lead safety meetings and participate in company leadership and safety committee meetings.
- Identify common safety issues and develop training or programs to address them.
Safety Planning & Risk Management
- Identify the company's highest-risk activities and develop plans to reduce those risks.
- Work with Estimating and Project Management to address safety requirements during bidding and pre-construction.
- Review safety requirements for high-risk and energized work.
- Help develop practical safety procedures that crews can follow in the field.
- Track safety performance and identify trends that may require additional training or corrective action.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Fleet Safety
- Maintain safety standards for company vehicles and fleet operations.
- Monitor driver safety and telematics information.
- Address unsafe driving behaviors through coaching and corrective action.
- Manage the company's safe driver program.
Customer & Contractor Relations
- Build positive relationships with General Contractors, Superintendents, customers, and project teams.
- Communicate safety expectations at the beginning of projects and throughout construction.
- Work with General Contractors and project teams to identify and address potential hazards.
- Represent the company during safety inspections and external audits.
- Make sure projects meet applicable regulatory and customer-specific safety requirements.
Qualifications
- 8–10 years of commercial construction safety experience.
- 3–5 years of safety leadership or management experience.
- Electrical construction experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical safety.
- Experience with accident and near-miss investigations.
- Experience developing and managing construction safety programs.
- Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and corrective actions.
- Ability to train, coach, and hold employees and field leadership accountable.
- Strong communication skills with both field employees and company leadership.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience may be considered.
- OSHA 500 or 510 preferred.
- CHST, ASP, or CSP certification strongly preferred.
